Discover it® and Discover it® Card for College Students cardholders, it's time to enroll and activate the Q3 rotating bonuses! From June 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017, you'll earn 5% cashback every time you dine out at restaurants on up to $1,500 in spend. Make sure you activate and enroll in the bonus as you'll only start earning 5% from the day you activate the deal.
If you don't have a Discover It card, there's a few reasons I recommend taking a closer look to see if it's a good fit. Although the card doesn't have a signup bonus, Discover matches your rewards in the first year. That means that you can earn 2%, instead of the standard 1%, on all purchases with the card and 10% cash back, instead of 5%, on the rotating categories. For the quarterly bonus categories, that gives you the opportunity to earn $600 cash back in the first year on just $6000 in net purchases. Keep in mind Birch factors this in when we make our card recommendations, and you can even choose this card to compare to your spending.
Pro tip for students: If you're interested in getting your first credit card, the Discover it® Card for College Students is one of the best ones on the market. Not only are the rewards fantastic, but Discover will also give you $20 every year that you maintain a 3.0 GPA or above. That's free money just for doing well in school.
Some Common FAQs!
If I activate my bonus categories after the start date, will I still earn rewards for previous purchases?A: No. Unlike the Chase Freedom card, you will only earn rewards on purchases made after you activate the quarterly bonus.
Which restaurant purchases are eligible for 5% cash back?A: According to Discover's site, "Restaurant purchases are those made at merchants classified as full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias and fast food locations. Purchases made using third-party payment accounts, tap-and-pay, mobile or wireless card readers, virtual wallets or similar technology may not be eligible."
That's it! Don't forget to activate and get your 5% cash back!
