Chase Freedom Q3 5% Bonuses: Restaurants and Movie Theaters

Alex Cohen Alex Cohen  |

Chase Freedom cardholders, we're officially in the enrollment period for the Q3 rotating category bonuses! Make sure to enroll and activate your Freedom card before September 14, 2017.

From July 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017, you'll earn 5% cash back on restaurants and movie theaters, up to a combined $1,500 in spend on these categories.

If you don't already have the card, The Chase Freedom is currently offering a signup bonus of $150 after you spend $500 in the first 90 days, in addition to 0% APR for 15 months. If you're diligent with your rewards and don't mind keeping up to date on the bonuses, it's a great way to earn about $300 in cash back each year or $360 in Ultimate Rewards points on the quarterly categories. If you're a Birch user, we'll keep track of the changing rewards for you and send you reminders once a quarter!

One of my favorite things about the Chase Freedom card is that instead of just having the option to redeem your rewards for cash back, you can actually transfer to Chase Ultimate Rewards and take advantage of all the different transfer partners and travel deals. This perk combined with $0 annual fees makes it one of the best cash back cards on the market.

Some important FAQs!

Q: If I enroll after June 1, can I still earn 5% back on restaurants and movie theaters?
A: Yep. As long as you enroll before September 14th, you'll earn 5% cash back on eligible purchases.

Q: Are there other ways of enrolling and activating the bonuses besides online?
A: Chase has a few other ways of enrolling your card. These include:

  • Email
  • Visit any Chase branch
  • Through a Chase ATM
  • Call Chase directly

Q: Does Chase have calendar reminders?
A: Yep! Click on any of these links to add a calendar reminder for each quarter:

Which restaurants are included in this bonus category?
A: According to Chase: "Merchants in the Movie Theaters category show motion pictures to an audience, including at drive-in theaters. Please note that theaters that provide live entertainment and merchants that sell and rent movies or provide movie subscription or streaming services are not included in this category. In addition, if you make purchases that are not processed by the merchant in the Movie Theaters category, the purchase will not qualify; for example food and beverage, or merchandise purchases."
